Brewery Lights 2015 Opens November 19

The annual Brewery Lights celebration at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery kicks of tomorrow night, November 19. MLB Hall of Famer and St. Louis Cardinals great Ozzie Smith will be on for the ceremonial "flipping of the swtich".

Brewery Lights will run from November 19 to January 3 at the historic Brewery in south Soulard.

Easter Bonnet Pub Crawl 2015 Saturday

Do you need something to do this Easter that doesn't involve church way far away and then an over-priced Easter Brunch that will leave you finding pizza to fill your stomach Sunday night?

Soulard, as always, has a solution for those looking to avoid traditional awkward family time on a religious holiday. The Easter Bonnet Bunny Buggy Brigade Pub Crawl Eggstravaganza will take place this Sunday (Easter) in Soulard beginning at Noon. The pubcrawl will feature six stops at Soulard establishments, an Bonnet and Buggy Decorating Contest and whatever other debauchery the lovely degenerates on this crawl come up with.

The pub crawl will begin at Noon at 1860s. It'll jump to Molly's at 1pm before hopping to Henry's at 2 pm. At 3 pm, folks will bounce their happy selves to Bastille before springing to Sonny's at 4 pm. The last official move of the day will be a bunny hop to Nadine's at 5 pm.

Nadine's will play host to the Bonnet and Buggy Decorating Contest as well as the announcement of the winners. According to a Facebook post that may have come from someone that had too much whiskey one day at Nadine'sand made shit up, the great Tulita Pepsi will be the MC for the contest at Nadine's. 1st place in the contest will receive a $75 Nadine's bar tab with second and third getting $50 and $25 tabs, respectively.

Soulard Art Fair September 20 & 21 in Market Park

The second edition of the Soulard Art Fair takes place this weekend in Soulard Market Park. The event will feature plenty of food, drinks, live music and of course, art. The hours are Saturday September 20 from 9a-7p and Sunday September 21 from 10a-5p.

Live music will start at 9a on Saturday and 11a on Sunday. Kid's Korner Arts will be going on throughout the festival and will allow children to create art of their own to take home. Facepainters and Caricature Artists will also be on hand throughout. A Strolling Mime and Strolling Stilt Walker will be making their way through the crowds on Sunday afternoon while a Strolling Magician and a Strolling Table will be on hand Saturday afternoon.

Food will be available from Joanie's Pizzeria, Nadine's Gin Joint and 1860's Hard Shell Cafe. Julia Market Cafe will have Bloody Mary's and margaritas for sale.

The event is free.

FaithFest 2014 happens this Saturday

The annual Christian music festival put on by The Rock Church of Soulard is happening this Saturday in Soulard Market Park. FaithFest 2014: "Putting the 'Soul' back in SOULard" happens on Saturday August 16 in Soulard. The event goes from 9 am to 5 pm (or 7 pm) and features such musical acts as Mercy's Child, Kingdom Brothers, Friends with Jesus, East to West, Minimee, and the Rockin' REVs. This is the fifth year for the event.

Tomorrow be on the lookout for loud Christian music, prayer-walkers and panhandlers taking advantage of people caught up in the Holy Spirit.

The Rock Church of Soulard has a webpage, a Twitter account and a Facebook page, but don't expect to find much more information.

Point Soulard Hayride Tonight

Tonight is the 105.7 The Point Haunted Hayride through the streets of Soulard.

Participants paid for a mug that they can take around to the participating bars to get filled with delicious beverages on the cheap. Revelers also need to get their passport stamped at all seven participating establishments to be entered to win prizes.

The event goes from 7pm-Midnight. Participants will be walking and taking the hayride trailers between the bars. Proceeds benefit Angels' Arms.

Soulard will be packed tonight so be safe out there youngins and be sure to have your car parked before 6pm if you want any chance at a spot near your place.

Hula Gras This Saturday At The Porch

Car Show, Crawfish Boil and Blues Cruise Saturday

This Saturday, the 19th, bring two great events to the Island.  Hammerstone's is having their annual car show in front of their establishment.  Expect cars, food, music and awesome people watching of course.

The Price's Annual Crawfish Boil is also on Saturday from 3p-Midnight. It's held on that short block of 10th between Allen and Geyer. Expect great food, live music and plenty of cold beverages.  It's $25 All-You-Can-Consume and is benefits the Cancer Support Center of St. Louis. Bring your own mug. This is one of my favorite annual events in Soulard. Call 314-229-0155 or 314-853-4855 for more information.


The Blues Cruise is also the weekend. Fittingly, St. Louis' Blues Week Festival kicks off this this event on the Island. 9 venues will be playing host to bands this year and a $10 wristband gets you into all of them. Also, be aware if you don't plan on attending the Cruise, that these 9 venues will have covers. A shuttle will be running between the 9 venues for those with wristbands.

Bark in the Park Kick-Off Party

This Wednesday, International Tap House on 9th will play host to the Humane Society's Bark in the Park Kick-Off Party. The event starts at 6pm and details of this year's Bark in the Park event will be revealed.  I don't know what details there are to reveal, but here's what hooked me:

If you RSVP by tomorrow (4/24) your first drink is on the Humane Society of Missouri AND the first 50 people will receive a fancy Bark in the Park pint glass. Here's the link. Registration is FREE.

Bark in the Park is the largest dog festival in the Midwest. The family and pet-friendly event kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19th, with the Walk for Animals dog walk, followed by an afternoon full of entertainment, food, activities and fun – all while benefitting homeless animals. Proceeds from the event benefit the Animal Cruelty Fund – dedicated to investigating, healing and preventing animal abuse. Registration is $25 for adults and $5 for kids 15 and under and includes an official Bark in the Park t-shirt. Kids under three and pets are free! Tour D'Onut Is Tomorrow 8am

Are you a bicycle enthusiast? Are you fond of donuts? Meet others just like you at 8am tomorrow at Soulard's own John Donut for the start of the Tour D'Onut bike ride.

Here's the plan for the day from the event's Facebook page

8am- Meet at (1) John Donut (1618 S Broadway). Enjoy donuts, enjoy friends, and get ready for the ride to our second destination(2) St. Louis Hills Donut Shop (6917 Hampton), then(3) Donut Drive-In (6525 Chippewa St), then(4) O'Fashion Donuts (5120 Southwest Ave), then(5) World's Fair Donuts (1904 S Vandeventer Ave), and finally we end with a reception at the grassy lot next to 4209 Blaine. 
The reception will include WHIFFLEBALL! live donut-themed MUSIC! a chance to REHYDRATE! PRIZES (including a "most donut spirit" award)! And a chance to rest our satisfied and full tummies. 
Come if you like CYCLING, DONUTS, SMALL BUSINESSES, FUN!

Last Saturday the 2011 World Naked Bike Ride-St. Louis rolled through Soulard.  Here are a couple videos I took.  After watching the videos several times, I can't see anything really NSFW in them so watch at your own risk.

St. Louis Uncorked This Saturday

This Saturday from 3p-11p the St. Louis Uncorked Wine and Music Festival will be running downtown at Soldiers Memorial (12th and Market).  I know this isn't on the Island, but it should be a great event and our own Mardi Gras Inc. is handling the beverage sales for the event.  An added benefit is I will be bartending somewhere for the whole event so you can come pay me for beverages.  I have been told there will also be beer on hand for sale for the non-classy folks (like me).  If you are interested in volunteering on Saturday, email me at ryan(at)iLoveSoulard.com and I can put you in touch with important people.

Kickball and Yard Sale Postponed

The Soulard Neighborhood Yard Sale originally scheduled for this weekend has been postponed to a date that hasn't been set in stone yet.  The event has been postponed so that people can pre-game for Hula Gras on Saturday instead of having responsibilities that morning.  If you have input on when the sale should be, email me. I accept bribes like a FIFA judge handing out World Cups.

Also, apparently the SRG Kickball Fundraiser originally scheduled for Saturday has been postponed, according to this Twitter account .  Now, it is possible this is actually the guy who runs around shining shoes and may or may not snatch purses in his spare time, but I am pretty confident it is a fine, upstanding Islander.  Pick-up games will be played starting at 11a Saturday in Pontiac Park.  Glass is not allowed, but you are welcome to bring beverages contained in any other container of any size as long as you share, play nice with others, and don't act a fool.
