Quick Tips to Keep You Safe

While having a delicious $2.22 breakfast this morning at Hammerstone's, my friend brought up something we had heard from a Police Officer at the last SRG meeting.

If you didn't know, there were some armed robberies on the Island a month or so ago.  Here are a few things that came out of the discussion with the Officer:

  • The Officer said he can't remember a crime in Soulard, such as an assault, that was perpetrated by a Soulard resident.  So, this tells us that we need to look after our neighbors, but not necessarily look out for our neighbors.  He said most of the criminals that stop off in Soulard are coming from North of the city.
  • If you see something that doesn't look right on the Island or someone that doesn't belong, call the Police.  They are here to help us.  Soulard falls in the 3rd District.  You can either call 9-1-1 or 314-444-0100.
  • Tracking down the suspects in robberies can get very complicated when they involve victims that have had a little too much to drink.  Those victims have trouble with the details of the perp a lot of the time.
  • The more people on a street who leave their front porch lights on, the safer that street will be. Leaving your light on each night costs about $1.75 extra each month, according to this www.shawstlouis.org/media/newsletters/Safety_Tips.pdf
