Jim Edmonds Coming to Soulard April 7th

Everyone who's anyone loves Soulard. CBS Sports 920 and InsideSTL.com are no exception. The radio station heard Monday-Friday on 920 AM has held multiple events throughout Soulard.

The media empire announced today that a new show will be heard in the Noon - 2pm time slot beginning April 7th, the day of the St. Louis Cardinals' Home Opener. Former Cardinal and future Hall of Famer Jim Edmonds and station owner Tim McKernan will co-host the show, simply called The Edmonds And McKernan Show.

The first broadcast of the show will come to listeners live from Llywelyn's in Soulard on April 7th. Home Opener Day is always a fun day in Soulard and this will just add to the excitement. The Cardinals take on the Cincinnati Reds at 3:15 on that Monday. Llywelyn's and several other establishments will have their shuttles running to the ballpark per the usual.

CBS Sports 920 is advertising an opening day party at Llywelyn's for April 7th so hopefully that means they will be broadcasting all of their shows live from Soulard that day.

If you are a sports fan and like sports talk radio, you should be listening to CBSSports 920 throughout the day. The station features a quality lineup that includes Jimmy "The Cat" Hayes, Frank Cusumano, Bryan Burwell and Joe Strauss among others. The Ryan Kelley Morning After show from 7am-10am is a favorite of iLoveSoulard partially because several people involved in the show live in Soulard and The Island is spoke of frequently and fondly on the show. It also welcomes some heavy-hitting guests and has like good sports talk and stuff.

The station is spot-on with having segments of each show online for your listening pleasure quickly after the broadcast so go check some out and start listening.

Llywelyn's On Limited Menu Today

Llywelyn's sent out an email today and posted on their Facebook page that they will only be serving a limited menu today due to a power failure in their kitchen. The full bar will still be available and the televisions are working so you can cheer on the Americans today at 11a when they take on the Canadians.

You can see the full limited menu here. It looks like their grills aren't working so no hamburgers or anything like that.

They are scheduled to serve chili and chips for this weekend's Taste of Soulard so those plans shouldn't be affected.

CBS Sports 920 Toy Drive Kick-Off and Holiday Party Tonight

Head to Llywelyn's tonight for the CBS Sports 920 Holiday Party and Toy Drive. Bring a new unwrapped toy and get a raffle ticket. The drawing includes lots of great prizes like Blues tickets, concert tickets, alcohol prizes and a tv. Be one of the first 50 people through the doors with a toy and get a free t-shirt plus gifts from Triple Crown whiskey and 360 vodka.

The Drive Home Presented By GFI Digital will be broadcasting live from 3pm-6pm. The sports radio show is hosted by Bryan Burwell, Joe Strauss and Brian Rea. The party will start right after and will include an appearance by Larry St. Nickel.

CBS Sports 920 is produced by InsideSTL.com. The station shows the Island a lot of love and it's pretty cool to have this party in Soulard. Personally, I love listening to The Ryan Kelley Morning After show on my drive to work in the mornings.

The Toy Drive benefits Friends of Kids with Cancer.

Seriously, this guy will be there plus of course the rest of the hosts and staff of the station.

Happy Football Day St. Louis

Sunday is the day we see what we have cooking with the Rams this season.  Here's what you need to know in Soulard.

  • Shuttles to the game:  As the Official Bar of the St. Louis Rams, Llywelyn's is offering the same complimentary shuttle that they offer for Cardinals games for every Rams home game this season. 1860's, Hammerstone's and Johnny's/Joanie's are also operating a shuttle. Like always, don't be a douche and just use the shuttle without buying anything from the bar.
  • Watching the games: International Tap House on 9th is the best place to watch games, especially when there are multiple games going on at the same time.  With the Cardinals playing an afternoon game, get to iTap to watch the games.  Also, iTap will be offering Happy Hour prices ($1 off drafts) during the games. Free pizza is available while it lasts starting at noon.  By "free pizza", I mean Feraro's so, it's amazing.
  • Watching the game at home: Call 314-588-8345 to order Feraro's

$5 Flatbreads Tonight At Llywelyn's

Tonight is $5 Flatbreads night at Llywelyn's from 6p-9p.  I'll admit I didn't like the change at first from $1 burgers to this on Tuesday nights, but these flatbreads are pretty good.  You pick one sauce, one cheese, and one topping from the list to the right.  What concoction will you make?  Let me know in the comments section.

Llywelyn's Changes Things Up

So I went into Llywelyn's last night to find they had made some changes to the specials.  The two most notable ones are:

  • No more "All Day Happy Hour" on Mondays. Happy Hour still goes 3p-6p M-F and 10p-Close Sun-Thurs.
  • No more "$1 Burgers" 6p-10p on Tuesdays.  This has been replaced by $5 Flatbreads 6p-9p
Don't get me wrong, I love Llywelyn's and they treat me well, but I don't know about these changes.  The flatbreads are good, but $1 burgers was a pretty cool event to invite friends to. And I would rather spend $5 on 5 burgers than one flatbread, but that's just me.

Another change that I hope isn't permanent was to the PBR situation.  Gone are the 12-oz bottles for $2.  In their place are 16-oz cans for $3.  That's just a little more per ounce, for you folks without a calculator.  You can still get regular bottles of Busch Bavarian for $2

Remember these changes weren't made by the people at the Soulard location.  Don't get angry with them like some customers did last night.  If you want to voice your opinion, email them through their website.  Also, note that the website hasn't been changed to reflect the new Monday situation.

SeenInSoulard #34 Llywelyn's Sidewalk Art

Apparently some managers over at Llywelyn's decided recently to paint their patio furniture in preparation for the patio season.  Problem is, they decided to paint the sidewalk too.  Now the sidewalk looks like this.  I would hope they clean it up soon.  This is the north side of Soulard Street.  Considering the shape the sidewalk there is in, I guess it really doesn't matter about the paint, but it still would be nice if they cleaned it up.

White Chili, $1 Burgers and Plastic Cups-- Llywelyn's Pub

FYI, this is the first in a series of posts going in-depth on a specific establishment

I started off this post thinking there were 3 main things important about Llywelyn's Pub on 9th and a bunch of things that were only slightly less important.  I realized after about two beers of staring at the screen that I needed to start over and take a different approach to this post.  Fact is, there are a ton of things great about Llywelyn's so here it goes:

  • White Chili--it is pretty awesome here. Chicken, white beans, and a little cream.  Get a cup and if you don't like it, I'll buy you a PBR, which leads me to. . .
  • $2 PBR and Busch Bottles--All Day, Every Day.  Now by the time I walk from the door to the bar, my PBR is uncapped and sitting on a coaster waiting for me.  It may take you a little while to get up to that level, but keep reading and you will see enough to encourage you to get there.
  • $1 Burgers Tuesday 6p-10p--Think a little bigger and better quality than White Castles. Just a quarter or two extra for toppings and a lil' more for sides.
  • Shuttles to Cardinals games--During baseball season, come ride the trolley to and from the Cardinals games.  Don't be a doucher, come in and get some beverages, pour them in a plastic cup, and hitch a ride on the trolley.
  • Minis to Midnight--Wednesday to Saturday 10p-Midnight--A big selection of hot or cold sandwiches in mini form. $2 each or Half dozen for $10 or Baker's dozen for $18.00.
  • Monday All Day Happy Hour and late night Happy Hour Tues-Thurs 10p-close
  • Sunday Funday-- From 7p-8p enjoy $2 PBR pitchers.  At 8pm the free trivia hosted by So Trivial starts. Prizes awarded for the top and bottom finishers.  Hint: sign up for the clues or you will be way lost.  Warning: it can get a little raunchy.
  • Saturday Happy Hour--11a-4p  $3 mystery pints and $2 mystery shots
  • Live music on Fridays and Saturdays--Warning: it can get really loud
  • Free Wifi--I'm using it now while I write this.
  • Plastic Cups--Sodas and water come in these.  Take them home.  You will use them a lot.

The Llywelyn's VIP card needs a bullet point like the keynote speaker at [insert self indulgent event here] needs an introduction. After moving to Soulard, your first purchases should be 1) toilet paper and 2) Llywelyn's VIP Card. I already wrote about the awesomeness of this card here and I have Happy Hour beers and Wifi to consume here at Llywelyn's so I won't type it out again.

Tuesday means $1 Burgers, $10 Pizza, and $3 Missouri Beers

Here's the 3 best deals in Soulard today, as judged by me off the top of my head:

  • $1 Burgers at Llywelyn's--6p-10p.  It's $1 per burger and extra for toppings and side.
  • $10 Pizza at Feraro's--Best pizza in the area, hands down.  $10 gets you a 14inch 3-topping pizza on Tuesdays.  You can even have it delivered to.....
  • $3 Missouri Beers at International Tap House--8p-close all Missouri beers are $3 in drafts and 12 oz bottles.  This does not include A-B beers because obviously that is a Belgian beer.  Branch out from the usual Schlafly and Boulevard and try something from Six  Row or Charleville.

Tuesday Pizza Special at Feraro's

If you haven't had Feraro's Pizza yet, you aren't getting the full Island experience.

Try Feraro's on a Tuesday and get a sweet deal. $10 for a 14-inch 3-topping pizza. The meatballs as a topping are amazing. The meatballs are an old family recipe that Jon then slices thin for the pizza. Delicious.

Other Tuesday specials:

Llywelyn's $1 Burgers 6p-10p (This special is ending soon I hear)
iTap $3 Missouri beers 8p-close

Sundays on the Island

Sundays in Soulard are reserved for two things: Church service and Llywelyn's trivia. That's really all that goes on.
The special at Llywelyn's is pretty good starting at 7pm:

  • 7p-8p $2 PBR Pitchers
  • 8p-on Happy Hour including 1/2 price apps
  • 8p So Trivia! starts----FREE with various prizes based on performance
Tips:

  • Make sure at 7:50p you decide if you need another PBR pitcher to hold you through the night.
  • Sign up with your email address so you get the weekly tips.  It makes things a lot easier
  • The guy running the show can get pretty vulgar.  Be aware.

      Mondays in Soulard

It's Monday.  Mondays kind of suck as most of us know.  Unless you work in the hospitality or restaurants, then you don't even know what the day is anyways.  Here's a small list of where the fun is for today on the Island.
      • 1/2 Off Half the Drafts at iTap 8p-close
        • Mardi Gras beads are slung around 22 of the draft handles.  Those beers are 1/2 off for a glass
      • 1/2 price pizza 7p-close at 1860s
Did I screw up or do you have an addition or comment?  Leave me it below
