Ashborne Benefit Show At Off Broadway

I usually don't blog about music, mainly because y'all really don't want to hear about my love for Footloose, Adele, country music and The Voice.

But, this Saturday happens to be a benefit show just off the island at Off Broadway that a great friend of mine is involved in.

If you have know me; have been to Carson's for karaoke; or both, you probably know who Bobby Jones is. Not only is he a helluva guy and one of those people who can run Ironman races, he also is musically gifted.

He was in this band called Ashborne that played all around St. Louis.  When he was in school at Wash U, I know he played down on The Landing a lot. The band has had quite a few twists, turns and different members from what I understand through the years.

This Saturday, the whole clan is getting back together for a show to benefit kidney cancer awareness. Check out the Facebook event page.

Cover is $15 for those over 21 and $17 for the babies.  All of the money goes to the cause.

Brew in the Lou, Neighborhood Watch Class, Fox Park Block Party--All Tonight

Three great events happening in or around Soulard tonight. Take your pick of one or hit up more than one.

  • Brew in the Lou-- Evan Benn, the highly-acclaimed Beer Guy at the Post-Dispatch and writer of the Hip Hops feature on Stltoday, wrote a book about beer in St. Louis. Being that he is one of the Top 10 "Tweeps" in St. Louis, it's only fitting that they are having a "Tweetup" to celebrate. It goes from 6p-10p at iTap.  $1 beers off all Missouri Drafts are available as part of the event.  Also, it's Wednesday, so, 8p-10p, iTap has their Kill The Keg promotion. The U.S. Soccer Gold Cup Semifinal game will also be showing at 6pm.
  • Neighborhood Watch Class--The Island is ramping up their Neigborhood Watch activities and here's your chance to be a part of it.  6:30-8:30 p at Lift for Life Academy.  It's the old bank turned into a school on the other side of Broadway if you don't know where it is.  Here's an article on the event from Your Local Messenger
  • Fox Park Block Party--This event may not be on the Island, but it is really close and looks like a fun event.  Also, it's sponsored in part by a local church, August Gate. Event goes 5-7:30p tonight at Fox Park.  Food, drinks, shaved ice, prizes are advertised.  Bring a lawn chair because St. Louis rapper, Thi'sl will be performing. Located at the corner of Victor and California.
